The KeyBank State Theater is one of the theaters that makes up Playhouse Square in Cleveland, OH. It originally opened in 1921 to host movies and vaudeville shows. Although the theater enjoyed some success throughout the years, it closed in 1969 due to financial trouble along with all the venues in Playhouse Square. Fortunately the buildings remained where they were and the Playhouse Square Foundation took them over and began booking successful shows at the venue. It is now home to the Cleveland Ballet and Cleveland Opera. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places as part of Playhouse Square in 1978.
