While it opened as a forum for vaudeville acts, drama, opera, and movies, some of the greatest names in rock and roll have played there, including the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Radiohead, and Queen. Even such luminaries as His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Bill Clinton acknowledged the Beacon, with the Dalai Lama choosing it as the site of his teaching classes in 1999, and Clinton ending his 60th birthday celebration with a private Stones concert. Upholding the fine standards of quality musical entertainment, the 2,600 seat three tiered venue rightfully earned its title as a national landmark and a permanent spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
